Menu Translation
Target Language
MenuLens supports translation into 40+ languages (powered by large language models, matching the system-supported language list).
- Defaults to your system language (e.g., system in English → translate to English)
- Switchable any time after capture or post-recognition
- Switching language re-runs the AI request; results may vary slightly
Region (optional)
If you enable "region-based recommendations", the app reads your approximate location (network-based, not precise GPS):
- Region is added as prompt context to help the AI better identify cuisine type
- For example, the same dish "红烧肉" might receive different flavor notes between Shanghai and Beijing
- You can toggle region context off any time under Me → Preferences
User Preferences
Under Me → Preferences, you can set:
- Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian / Halal / No spicy, etc.
- Allergens: Peanuts, seafood, gluten, etc. (informational, not medical advice)
- Taste preferences: Spice level, sweet vs. salty
- Budget range: Influences recommended dish pricing
These preferences are injected into the recognition and recommendation prompts.
Translation Quality & Limits
MenuLens translations are generated by AI:
- Dish names: Original name + translation are kept side-by-side so you can point at the original when ordering
- Ingredient inference: Depends on OCR accuracy and image clarity
- Price extraction: Original currency and figure are preserved when possible
- Inaccuracy risk: Handwritten menus, non-standard fonts, dim or reflective environments reduce accuracy

AI output does not constitute medical, allergy, or dietary advice. For matters involving food allergies, religious dietary law, or personal health restrictions, consult restaurant staff directly.
Pro Tips
- Can't fit in one shot → Use "multi-shot" stitching
- Heavy reflection → Adjust angle, avoid flash
- Tiny font → Move closer rather than zoom (zoom loses resolution)
