1. About the Service
CosmeticLens ("CosmeticLens", "the App") is an iOS cosmetic ingredient scanning and assessment application developed by SignalRender Inc. ("we", "us", "our"). CosmeticLens lets you photograph the INCI ingredient list on cosmetic products, identifies individual ingredients through computer vision, and surfaces matches against your personal sensitivity profile (e.g., fragrance, preservatives, retinoids, parabens). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of CosmeticLens.
By installing or using CosmeticLens, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use CosmeticLens. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must use CosmeticLens with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
3. Not a Medical or Diagnostic Service
CosmeticLens is an informational tool, not a medical device, dermatological consultation, or diagnostic service. CosmeticLens does not:
- Diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any skin disease, allergy, or medical condition
- Replace consultation with a qualified dermatologist, allergist, or healthcare professional
- Guarantee that a product is safe, hypoallergenic, or suitable for any individual
If a product or ingredient causes you any adverse reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult a qualified healthcare professional. If you experience a severe reaction (anaphylaxis, swelling, breathing difficulty), seek emergency medical care.
4. Asymmetric Information Principle
CosmeticLens follows an asymmetric reporting principle: when an ingredient on your sensitivity list is detected, we surface it clearly so you can make an informed choice. We will never state that a product is "safe", "hypoallergenic", or "free of" any class of ingredient. Absence of detection does not mean absence of risk — labels may be partially obscured, abbreviated, or use proprietary blend names that bypass detection.
5. Ingredient Data and Risk Classification
Ingredient risk classifications surfaced inside CosmeticLens are derived from publicly available regulatory and scientific sources, including but not limited to:
- EU Cosmetic Ingredient Database (CosIng)
- FDA cosmetic ingredient guidance
- SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) opinions
- EWG Skin Deep database
These classifications are summaries, not authoritative regulatory determinations. They may lag behind regulatory updates and may not reflect emerging scientific consensus. We make no warranty as to the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of any classification.
6. License to Use
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use CosmeticLens on Apple devices you own or control, solely for your own non-commercial use. You may not:
- Distribute, sell, resell, rent, sublicense, or commercialize CosmeticLens or any part of it
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code, except to the extent such restrictions are prohibited by applicable law
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
- Use CosmeticLens to violate any law or third-party right
7. Subscriptions and Billing
CosmeticLens offers a free tier (limited daily scans) and Pro plans:
- Monthly subscription (auto-renewing)
- Annual subscription (auto-renewing)
- 7-day complimentary trial available for new subscribers
All purchases are processed by Apple via In-App Purchase and are governed by your Apple ID, the Apple Media Services Terms, and the App Store's price and currency at the time of purchase.
Auto-renewal disclosure: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iOS device. Uninstalling CosmeticLens does not cancel an active subscription.
8. Privacy
Your use of CosmeticLens is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
9. Disclaimers
CosmeticLens is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that CosmeticLens will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that defects will be corrected.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall SignalRender Inc., its affiliates, officers, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data, skin reactions, allergic responses, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of CosmeticLens.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of CosmeticLens after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
