Selene: Moon Phases Tonight · FAQ
What is Selene?
Selene is a moon-phase and moon-tracking app that answers one question: is tonight worth looking up for? It fuses tonight's phase, the moon's position, and sky conditions into one plain-language verdict, then helps you find the moon overhead with an AR overlay. You also get the full month calendar with moonrise and moonset times and full- and new-moon names. All the astronomy is calculated on your device, with no account required.
Is Selene private? Where is my data stored?
Yes — Selene is local-first and has no account system. Your saved locations, interest preferences, and settings live only on your device, and all moon-phase and position math runs entirely on-device and is never uploaded. Selene reads your location only while you're using the app, to calculate the moon for where you are, and the camera frames used for the AR sky view are processed on-device and never recorded or uploaded. You can erase everything at once with Settings → Delete everything.
What stays free in Selene?
The essentials are free forever — it's a promise printed inside the app. That includes tonight's verdict, the full month calendar with every phase, moonrise and moonset times, full- and new-moon names, and the AR view to find the moon in the sky. The most common complaint about other moon apps is that the calendar sits behind a paywall; in Selene it never will.
What does Selene Pro unlock?
Pro adds unlimited time travel to any date, past or future; weather-aware alerts and rare-event reminders (total lunar eclipses and supermoons); multiple saved locations; and advanced AR alignment. Pro is available as a yearly auto-renewing subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. The core experience — tonight's verdict and the full calendar — stays free whether or not you upgrade.
Selene Pro — annual subscription or one-time Lifetime?
Both unlock exactly the same Pro features. Annual is an auto-renewing subscription billed once a year through your Apple ID. Lifetime is a single one-time purchase with no recurring billing — you own Pro permanently. There is no free trial: because tonight's verdict and the full calendar are already free, you can judge the app fully before deciding to upgrade. All billing is handled by Apple.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open iOS Settings → tap your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → Selene → Cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and Pro features stay available until then. Apple manages all subscription billing, so Selene cannot charge or refund you directly. A one-time Lifetime purchase is not a subscription and has nothing to cancel.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
On the paywall, tap "Restore". This re-checks your Apple ID and re-activates an active subscription or your Lifetime purchase — useful after reinstalling or switching devices. Because purchases are tied to your Apple ID, no account or password is needed.
Why does Selene sometimes say it can't give a verdict?
Because it won't fake certainty. Tonight's verdict blends astronomy with sky conditions, and when a reliable weather source isn't available for your location or date, Selene tells you plainly ("astronomy only, no weather source") instead of inventing a confidence number. The moon-phase and position facts are always exact; only the weather-dependent "worth stepping outside" call is held back when the data isn't there.
