FAQ

What is Wick?

Wick is a candlelight focus timer. You light a candle, name one honest intention, and begin — a little candle burns beside you while you work, so you can put the phone face down and let the flame hold the time for you. Choose Pomodoro, Flowtime, or a plain timer, turn on an optional Shield to keep distracting apps out while you focus, and watch your almanac fill in with every focused day. There is no account and nothing to sign up for.

Is Wick private? Where is my data stored?

Yes — Wick is on-device and has no account system. Your intentions, focus history, streaks, and settings live only on your device and are never uploaded. There is no tracking and no analytics of your focus sessions. Wick does not request access to your photos or contacts. The optional app-guard uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework, which runs entirely on-device — Wick never sees which specific apps you choose beyond enforcing your own rule.

What's free, and what does Wick Pro unlock?

The whole focus ritual is free: lighting a candle, Pomodoro/Flowtime/timer sessions, daily intentions, the standard Shield, your almanac, and streaks. Wick Pro unlocks deep-guard mode (a stricter Shield with no early release), extra candle skins, ambient focus sounds, and additional themes. You can focus fully every day without ever paying.

Is Wick Pro a subscription?

No. Wick Pro is a single one-time purchase — you own it permanently, with no recurring billing and nothing to cancel. Billing is handled by Apple through your Apple ID.

How does the Shield (app-guard) work, and does it need permission?

The Shield uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to gently keep distracting apps out of reach while a focus session is burning. The first time you use it, iOS asks for your permission, and you choose which apps to guard. Guarding only ever happens during a session and lifts automatically when the candle goes out. Everything is enforced on-device by iOS itself.

Will the Shield lock me out of my phone?

No. The Shield is friction, not a cage — its job is a moment's pause, not a lockdown, and there is always an exit for you. Gentle mode simply asks you to wait a breath before opening a distracting app; Shield mode hides and mutes them for the session. Only Deep mode (Pro) holds firm until the session ends, and it's opt-in for the times you know you'll break your own rules. Calls, messages, and everything outside your guarded list stay available.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

On the Pro screen, tap "Restore". This re-checks your Apple ID and re-activates your Wick Pro purchase — useful after reinstalling or switching devices. Because the purchase is tied to your Apple ID, no account or password is needed.

Does Wick count my focus honestly?

Yes, and that's the point. Wick only logs the focus you truly gave — a session you finish is recorded, an interruption is recorded honestly as an interruption, and nothing is padded or faked. Your streak and almanac reflect real focused time, so the numbers you see are ones you actually earned.
