1. About the Service
Piko ("Piko", "the App") is an iOS app for learning Chinese characters, developed by SignalRender Inc. ("we", "us", "our"). Piko lets a child photograph everyday objects, recognizes them on-device, and turns each one into a Chinese character to read, hear, trace, collect, and review. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Piko.
By installing or using Piko, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
2. Eligibility and Parental Supervision
Piko is a learning tool designed for children and is intended to be set up and supervised by a parent or guardian. If you are a parent or guardian, you agree to these Terms on behalf of the child using the App and are responsible for that use. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use Piko only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms for you.
3. License to Use
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Piko on Apple devices you own or control, solely for your own non-commercial use. You may not:
- Distribute, sell, resell, rent, sublicense, or commercialize Piko or any part of it.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code, except to the extent such restrictions are prohibited by applicable law.
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices.
- Use Piko to violate any law or third-party right.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Piko in a lawful and respectful manner. Piko is an educational aid; while we work to make its recognition and learning content accurate, we do not guarantee any particular learning outcome, and the character information provided is for learning purposes and may contain simplifications appropriate for young learners.
5. Subscriptions and Billing
Piko offers a free tier and may offer optional Premium features. Any purchases are processed by Apple via In-App Purchase and are governed by your Apple ID, the Apple Media Services Terms, and the App Store's price and currency at the time of purchase.
Auto-renewal disclosure: Auto-renewing subscriptions renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iOS device. Uninstalling Piko does not cancel an active subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policy; we do not process payments directly and cannot issue refunds independently.
6. Your Content
The character gallery, learning progress, and profile created inside Piko remain yours. We do not claim ownership over them. Because Piko is local-first, this content is stored on your device by default and is not uploaded to our servers.
7. Intellectual Property
The Piko name, logo, clay-style artwork and stickers, illustrations, UI design, source code, character-learning content, and all related materials are the property of SignalRender Inc. or our licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to our trademarks, brand assets, or proprietary code beyond the limited license in section 3.
8. Service Availability
We will make reasonable efforts to keep Piko functional and to address bugs, but we do not guarantee that Piko will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the service at any time, with or without notice.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
Piko is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, reliability, or uninterrupted operation. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all such warranties.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall SignalRender Inc., its affiliates, officers, employees, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, Piko — regardless of the legal theory and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
11. Termination
You may stop using Piko at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your access to Piko if you materially breach these Terms or use Piko in a manner that is unlawful, abusive, or harmful to others. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including IP, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.
12. Apple's Standard EULA
To the extent applicable, your use of Piko is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, available at:

If there is any conflict between these Terms and Apple's standard EULA, these Terms control to the extent permitted, except where Apple's terms are required by Apple to govern.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this document reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notice. Continued use of Piko after the effective date of an update indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of Piko shall first be addressed by good-faith negotiation between you and us; failing that, the dispute shall be resolved in the courts of Singapore, unless otherwise required by your local mandatory consumer-protection law.
