Build a Colour Scheme from a Photo | Tinta
Frequently asked questions
- Does Tinta suggest colour harmonies?
- Yes. Harmony suggestions appear when you want a scheme rather than a single sample.
- What is subject-aware colour clustering?
- It is how Tinta decides which colours in a frame are the subject. Without it, clustering would return the largest flat area — usually the background — rather than the colour you noticed.
- Can I use the scheme for printing?
- Yes. Cards export at up to 4K with P3 wide-gamut colour, which covers print as well as screens.
The difference between a palette and a scheme
A palette is the set of colours that were found. A scheme is that set chosen so the colours work together — which is a different problem, and the reason Tinta offers harmony suggestions rather than only samples.
The usual way to get a scheme is to pick colours by eye and hope they agree. Doing it from a photo gives you a starting point that was already composed, because the light and materials in a photograph tend to produce colours that sit together.
Getting the colours that matter
The scheme is only as good as the palette under it, so the palette step matters more than it looks. Tinta uses subject-aware colour clustering: it reads the colours belonging to what you shot, not the largest flat region of the frame. That is the difference between a scheme built on the rust of a jacket and one built on the beige wall behind it.
Each swatch carries its exact HEX, so nothing is lost between the photo and the value you paste into a design tool.
Presenting it
Twelve editorial mount styles — instant, film strip, arch window, diptych, spread, deckle edge and more — change how the same scheme reads without changing the colours. Cards collect into a light-table gallery you can keep warm or cool, minimal or vintage.
Exporting
Save or share at up to 4K with P3 wide-gamut colour, clean edges and real optical grain — sharp enough for the grid and good enough to print.
