Detect Later Edits to a Photo | JobProof

Frequently asked questions

Does JobProof prove a photo wasn't edited?
Not in that sense. It computes local SHA-256 hashes so you can detect later changes to file consistency. It does not prove identity, capture time, legal ownership, or third-party certification.
What stays immutable?
The captured original stays immutable inside the app. A SHA-256 hash is computed for the image and for the canonical manifest.
What happens when a correction is needed?
Corrections create a new report version instead of silently replacing a delivered report.
Where are the hashes computed?
Locally, on your device.

The short answer

JobProof keeps the captured original immutable inside the app and computes local SHA-256 hashes for the image and the canonical manifest, so a later change is detectable.

What that establishes — and what it does not

This is the part worth reading carefully, because "hash" gets over-read:

  • It does verify file consistency. If the bytes changed after capture, the hash changes.
  • It does not prove identity, capture time, legal ownership, or third-party certification.

A local hash says "this file is the one that was here". It does not say who took it, when, or that anyone vouches for it. For those questions you need a third-party timestamp or an identity process, which is a different product with different costs.

The honest framing: detect later edits is what this does. Prove what happened is not.

Corrections create versions

Related, and the reason the immutable original matters: when something needs correcting, corrections create a new version instead of silently replacing a report you already delivered.

A delivered report that quietly changes underneath a customer is worse than one that is wrong, because the customer signed off on something that no longer exists.

Local by design

The hashes are computed locally, on your device. No account, no app-managed cloud sync — job photos, customer details, signatures and reports stay on your device unless you export or share them.
