Use tmux Panes and Tabs on an iPad | YoloShell
Frequently asked questions
- Does tmux on YoloShell show real panes or a text approximation?
- Real ones. YoloShell uses tmux control mode (-CC), which is a pane UI rather than the text-mode rendering tmux normally uses over SSH.
- Can I run several hosts side by side?
- Yes. Multi-tab terminals on iPad, with live tab titles synced from OSC sequences, made for the big screen and external keyboards.
- Do I need a separate VNC app?
- No. VNC remote desktop is built in and free — pixel-perfect, with touch gestures and a full hardware-style key bar.
- What does YoloShell Pro add?
- Multi-tab terminals on iPad, unlimited profiles and SSH keys, tmux control mode, custom themes and priority support.
The short answer
tmux over SSH normally renders as text — you read your panes as characters in a stream. YoloShell
uses tmux control mode (-CC), which is a pane UI. On an iPad, that difference is the whole
feature: you tap a pane instead of parsing terminal output.
Multi-tab on iPad
Run many hosts side by side with multi-tab terminals, with live tab titles synced from OSC sequences — so a tab renames itself when the remote program renames it, rather than showing a stale label you have to interpret.
It is built for the big screen and external keyboards.
VNC, included
Built in and free — no extra app needed. VNC into your Mac, a Linux box or any server, pixel-perfect, with touch gestures and a full hardware-style key bar.
The key bar is what makes desktop work usable on a touchscreen: holding Ctrl, Alt and Tab as physical concepts rather than gestures you have to keep discovering.
What Pro adds
